WhatsApp is a freeware application and has a variety of additional features including, but not limited to, encrypted communications, group chats, and the ability to send texts to people who are not part of the conversation.
The company claims the app is used by 900 million people in December 2014, making it the most popular messaging application in the world. Whatsapp makes its money by charging a one-time fee to upgrade to the Premium service.
