Final Fantasy XIV Remake had a hard time with its release last year. After it had turned out that the servers cannot handle free trials, the release was suspended. And now, on February 22, 2022, it’s finally back. Now, Square Enix is ready to re-release the game, with upgraded servers and new Worlds.

Free trials become available again on February 22. To provide this won’t collapse the system as it happened last year, Square Enix got its Oceania Data Center activated. Now the server capacity will be sufficient to accept many more players in trial mode. Given how large is the game and how much interest it raised among the playing community, let’s hope these measures are sufficient. New content will arrive with the 6.0 update that brings new deep dungeons and jobs. There will be more with each update.

As a MMORPG, Final Fantasy XIV stands apart from other games of the franchise and doesn’t require acquaintance with them. While other installments are standalone, this one is online-only, so it faces challenges unheard of for other Final Fantasy games. Let’s see how the upgraded infrastructure will handle the new influx of players who have been waiting for months for the trial to return.

Another unprecedented thing that was almost introduced in Final Fantasy XIV was NFT support. Square Enix had before directly expressed its interest in NFT in a New Year letter from Yosuke Matsuda, the CEO of the company, who also mentioned blockchain-based games and Square Enix’s metaverse. Still, the response from the audience (mostly Western players) made the publisher ditch the idea.

Have you already tried Final Fantasy XIV? What do you feel about its MMORPG incarnation? Was it easy for you to connect and play the game? And what do you feel about the game in general? Let’s leave comments and share your impressions of the game!
