If you prefer calm and smooth color tonality on your touchscreen – good news! Google decided to add a dark mode toggle to almost every Android version. The innovation first premiered on Android 10 last year.

Dark mode has been in such a wild demand, so Google thought it would be a good idea to equip older operating systems with it. And not just Android –  apps and tools developed by Google will also get the cherished toggle. Among them are Google Files, Duo, Photos, etc. And even Google Play hasn’t been left out!

So, if you want your touchscreen to go nocturnal, here’s what to do:

  • Go to Play Store and select Settings;
  • Tap the hamburger menu;
  • Select Theme;
  • Use the dark mode toggle all you want.

The feature will help extend battery life as well as give a break to your eyes. It is available to all Android gadgets powered by Android 5.0 or higher. If your device runs Android 9, you won’t need Play Store at all. Instead, go to Settings and choose Display. The dark mode toggle will be there.

If your phone can be upgraded to Android 9, that would be an easier solution. If not, you’ll have to wait for a few days until Dark Theme is fully available to every device.
